A large, fortune 500 ranking American Global Professional service provider needed to decommission and remove all their server and networking equipment from its datacentre, with some equipment being Migrated to another of the clients’ datacentres, and some equipment being retired and sent for recycling. This all had to be done in tight time constraints due to the planned exit date having to be moved forward due to unforeseen circumstances and imminent closure of the building.

What did SAS Tech Services do?

Over a five-day period, the SAS engineering team had to decommission over 500 items of Sever and Networking equipment. This involved consolidating all items against the clients manifest by scanning them against V- look up, and separate and pack the items into one shipment to be migrated to the clients main datacentre, and one shipment being sent for recycling.

The equipment needed to be removed using specialist tools and equipment. Once removed specialist packaging was utilised to mitigate the chance of any damage during transit. Once the packed equipment was loaded onto separate air ride vehicles, they were then sent off for direct same day delivery to the relevant destinations.

To achieve this result SAS spent time with the client to understand exactly what was needed and the client’s expectations. This enabled SAS to meticulously plan the execution of the equipment decommissioning and movements, and ensure that all was completed before the exit date specified by the client. This level of attention to detail during the planning phase of this project, enabled SAS to commit the correct resources and equipment needed to execute the project flawlessly and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
